AIA Young Architects Forum | Seattle, 2016
How can we help the public and local stakeholders articulate the problems in the urban built environment in this neighborhood?
As the Young Architects Forum contribution to the 2016 Seattle Design Festival, Map the Square provided the opportunity for users of Pioneer Square to engage with the neighborhood and its public spaces in a new way: by marking areas that could be enhanced to be more welcoming, accessible and safe. Boards with colored tags were placed in different location in Pioneer Square, inviting people to take tags, place them where they thought an urban intervention may be appropriate, then post a picture of the location and tag to social media. Using these pictures and the teams own documentation, the data was compiled into a map to show these 'spatial comments' together in the context of Pioneer Square.
The project received an Honorable Mention in the Conceptual category of the 2016 AIA Seattle Honor Awards.
